Biography
Monica Simoes is a young photographer from New York, where she currently resides. She does freelance photography for Broadwayworld.com and Time Out magazine's online edition.
Monica's work began at a very early age when she unexpectedly discovered a love for the Broadway stage. As a young girl, everything appeared to be magical and she instantly knew she wanted to be a part of it-- in some capacity.
At around the same time that her love for theatre took hold, she began developing an eye for photography. She had always had a creative eye and was adept with both a pen and a paintbrush. But it was through a lens that she found her true artistic calling. She began taking photographs in high school, at Newburgh Free Academy. She chose to pursue photography as more than just a hobby and is currently taking courses at Parsons the New School for Design.
At Parsons, Monica has merged her two passions. Much of her work focuses on theatre in different all of its many forms. She uses her camera as a tool to unearth and bring to light everything that goes into a production-- from the performance itself to the fans, the performers and the hustle and bustle behind the scenes.
Monica has found a seemingly perfect combination of her passion for theatre and her love for photography.
